Final Eglin Report

Davis Bowyer (71-67) held off Jacoby Chappa (72-67) by one stroke to win at Eglin in his first career scratch tour start. Bowyer shared the first round lead with tour veteran Burton Chesterfield (71-74) at one under par, with Chappa one behind and a quartet of players two behind. Mike Riley (73-68)vshot 32 on the front nine Sunday to tie Bowyer for the lead with 9 holes to play, but Bowyer and Chappa shot matching 33s on the back nine. Bowyer birdied the 14th hole to take a one shot lead over Chappa which he held as the two matched scores over the last 4 holes. With Chappa in with birdie on the final hole, Bowyer made a nice saving birdie putt of his own to secure his maiden scratch tour win.

In the senior division, Mike Brown (71-70) collected his 14th career senior division title by two shots over Bill Tyner (72-71) and three shots over hard charging Bert Smith (75-69). The battle was tight during the second round until Brown built a a three shot lead with birdie and a two shot swing at the shot par 4 tenth hole

Final report

Matt Johnson birdied the 18th hole Sunday to win a escape with a one stroke win over Bo Brown. Johnson finished 36 holes at even par (73-71). First round leader Matt Lopez (72-74) finished two shots behind Johnson. Dalton Humphrey finished fourth, while Ralph Mathews shot the open division tournament low round (69) to climb into fifth place.

In the senior division, Harry Black (68-74) went wire to wire for his first career win. Black led by 8 strokes after a sterling first round 68 and was never challenged in the second round. Drew Bass and Tim Price tied for second place, 9 shots behind Black.


WindSwept Dunes
June 7-8, 2014
Final Report

Bob Mathers overtook Mike Riley on the final 5 holes to win by two shots at Windswept Dunes. Riley led by one stroke with 5 holes to play, but Mathers birdied 2 of his final five holes and hit a great fairway bunker shot to 15 feet on the final hole to seal his victory. Mathers shot 4 under par (69-71) to Riley's (68-74). Rob Maddox shot 71 in the final round to finish third, three strokers behind Mathers. Joe Moberly (73-73) finished fouth at 2 over par.

In the senior division, Mike Brown survived a hard fought battle with Danna Sutton and Fred Gross to win by two strokes. Brown opened up a 3 shot lead early in the final round and held on for his 13th career seinor division win.



St. James Bay

Tour veteran Tyler KausHagen shot 73-69 to grab his first career Scratch Tour win. KausHagen trailed first round leader Mike Riley by two shots after round 1 and was in a four way tie for second place. After 12 holes Sunday, KausHagen and Rob Maddox were all tied for the lead. But KausHagen birdied the difficult 13th hole to grab the lead for good. Riley and Maddox couldn't make any birdies down the stretch while the steady Kaushagen parred the remaining 5 holes to win by two shots over Riley. Matt Johnson followed his opening round 82 with a dazzling 64 to charge into a tie for third with Maddox. Brian Barth finished 5th, one behind Maddox and Johnson.

In the senior division, first round leader Bert Smith faltered a bit Sunday backing up into a tie with Mike Brown after 16 holes. Smith then birdied the 17th to take a one shot lead. But Brown birdied the 18th, capping a back nine 33, to force a sudden death playoff. On the first hole of the playoff, Smith nailed a 45 foot birdie putt from the fringe. Brown then missed his 20 foot putt that would have extended the playoff. Gary Grant and Broward Sapp finished third and fourth respectively.


Rocky Bayou

Kyle Wesolowski shot 68-70-138 to win at Rocky Bayou. Wesolowski was 4 under par through 12 holes in round one when play was suspended due to heavy rain. He came back early Sunday and completed his round with 6 straight pars for a 68 and a one shot lead over Bob Mathers. On Sunday, Wesolowski made a crucial birdie on number 17 to tie Mathers. Mathers was unable to play in the playoff, and Wesolowski picked up his first career scratch tour win. Bo Brown shot a pair of 70s to finish third, two shots back. Mike Riley shot 69 Sunday and finished 4th, one shot benhind Brown.

In the senior division, Jay Manuel shot 73-75-148, outlasting Gary Grant by one shot to win his second career scratch tour title. Grant and Manuel were neck and neck all day Sunday with Grant's bogey on the final hole the deciding blow. Danna Sutton, playing in his first scratch tour event, finished 3rd, 3 shots behind Manuel.


Panama Country Club

March 8-9, 2014

Matt Johnson overcame a first round 2 shot deficit with a final round 69 to win at Panama Country Club by 3 shots over Brian Barth. Barth and Rob Maddox shared the first round lead with matching 71s, but coming to the back nine Sunday it was a dogfight with several players within 3 shots of the lead. Bob Mathers led by one shot with nine holes to play but sufferred a double and a triple bogey on the back nine and eventually tied for 3rd with Mike Riley and John Eiland. Maddox was in contention until he tripled the ninth and finished in a tie for 13th. While the other contenders were strugging, Johnson played the back nine in 34 to secure his 29th career scratch tour win.

In the senior division, 2 time player of the year Mike Brown survived by 2 shots over Gary Grant and Bert Smith, and three shots over Drew Bass and Harry Black.

Bay Point (Nicklaus Course)

Dillon Humphrey shot a final round 67 to overtake first round leader Matt Johnson and claim a one shot victory over Johnson at the season opener. The victory was Humphrey's second career scratch tour title. Johnson fired a spectacular first round 66 to take a 7 shot lead (8 over Humphrey), but couldn't find any magic in the second round, finishing with a 76. Humphrey's final round included 5 birdies and 2 eagle. Humphrey's scoring average on the par five holes (4.13) than his scoring average on the par 4 holes (4.25).

In the senior division, first round leader Robert Hinkle shot a second round 75 to hold off Mike Brown by 2 shots. Hinkle's first round 73 led by one over Brown, but Brown took the lead early in the second round. But Hinkle made up three shots on the final three holes to seal his victory.
